The present church was erected between Easter 1851 and June 1852. The church was dedicated to The Holy Trinity. The church was designed by E.H, Shellard, Architect of Manchester, in the English 14th Century Style. It is built of hard, snecked, Pennine sandstone, with dressed stone to the windows, which are topped with pointed arches, with perpendicular tracery.

The church was designed by E.H, Shellard, Architect of Manchester, in the English 14th Century Style. It is in the Stalybridge Town Centre Conservation Area, and is Grade II listed. A major re-ordering of the church was carried out in the 1990’s. This included replacing the pews with loose chairs, renewing the heating and electrical installations and redecorating the building.
It is built of hard, snecked, Pennine sandstone, with dressed stone to the windows, which are topped with pointed arches, with perpendicular tracery.
The West window is of plain glass, but the large East window is in five panels of stained glass, depicting Jesus in the centre panel with two apostles on either side.
