Churches dedicated to St Pancras are often very early (could be linked to St Pancras Priory, dedicated 1131). It is unknown exactly how hold this church is; but there is Roman material in a Saxon window by the porch and east wall of the chapter.
An ancient chapel once stood (until 19th century) on the right side of the path going through the lychgate (which commemorates 2000 years of Christianity). The earliest recorded burials are 1607, but the churchyard was in use far longer.
There were more medieval buildings here including a rectory, but that was demolished in 1850.
Arlington Churchwarden's accounts for 1455-79 have survived and are now kept in the British Museum being probably the earliest in Sussex.
A herd of 28 cows belonged to the church circa 16th century.
A shingled spire and Roman tiles and pottery incorporated into a small Saxon window by the porch.
15th century kingposts, roof trusses and timbers.
14th century wall paintings - traces of foliated crosses on each side of the chancel arch, St Christopher on the nave north wall and St George on the nave south wall. Some Norman windows in the Lady Chapel, with half dogtooth motif. High status coffin lids (Norman) found here, with chalk scarcophagus and skeleton.
Original holy water piscine with 1624 graffiti in 20th century south porch.
Had a pulput at least as early as 1458 - repaired for 2s3d.
George II coat of arms 1819.
