The CHANCEL dates from the 13th century and formerly was considerably lower. The clerestory was added and the roof raised in the 14th century. The NAVE, which is particularly high for its size, dates from the 14th century and probably superseded a smaller one. The TOWER, 14th century has very thick walls which contain a spiral stair to the ringing and bell chambers and a fine Early English stepped back arch to the nave.

The TOWER, 14th century has very thick walls which contain a spiral stair to the ringing and bell chambers and a fine Early English stepped back arch to the nave.
On the south side are three sedilia with carved canopies. The window above contains the oldest stained glass in the church, 15th century.
The church was restored and completely refurbished in 1875-1876 by Sir George Gilbert Scott with the carving by Farmer & Brindley, London. The unity of the Victorian Gothic interior has been maintained.
The architecture is mixed. The east window is Early English in form but probably Victorian in its present form. The chancel clerestory is quasi Perpendicular, 15th Century and the remainder of the church transitional between Early English and Decorated, 13th and 14th century. The church was restored and completely refurbished by Sir Gilbert Scott in the 1870s.
The external walls of the tower exhibit a striking appearance of alternate courses of Hornton Stone and white lias. The tower is surmounted by a later parapet with pinnacles and an octagonal spire rising to 120 feet above ground level. The vestry is situated within in the base of the tower and on its walls are several memorial tablets that were removed from the chancel in the 1870s.

The CHANCEL dates from the 13th century and formerly was considerably lower. The clerestory was added and the roof raised in the 14th century. The striking east window, with nearly 90 figures dates was designed by John Hardman Powell and installed in 1876. On the south side are three sedilia with carved canopies. The window above contains the oldest stained glass in the church, 15th century. On the north side is an Easter Sepulchre. There is also a curious low window, sometimes called a leper's window.
The NAVE, which is particularly high for its size, dates from the 14th century and probably superseded a smaller one. From marks on the wall it appears that the roof was lower at one time before addition of the present clerestory. On the south side in an alcove is the recumbent figure of a priest in vestments, found under the floor during the 1870s restoration.
