Emmanuel church was built in 1846 in Early English style.
The Church Hall, which is attached to the church by a corridor, was opened in 1973, and extended in 1990.
Emmanuel was closely associated with the Wragg family, who were local industrialists, on whose land the church was built. Many of the windows are in memory of Wragg family members, as is the South Transept screen.
A substantial reordering was conducted in 1929, which included the creation of a vestry, the reduction in the number ofpews, screens dividing off the transepts, repositioning the organ and the provision of a new pulpit, lectern, choir stalls and clergy desks. Electric lighting was added at the same time.
Many of the windows are in memory of Wragg family members, as is the South Transept screen.
The South Transept contains war memorial plaques.
