The tower of this church is tall and substantial, roughly 28' square and 90' high, and is built of Barnack rag masonry which was widely used for church building in the Fen country. The style is consistently Early English and it is clear that the builder had some aquaintance with the buildings of Lincoln. The first stage has open arches on all four sides flanked by gabled niches projecting from the great octagonal buttresses which go up in receeding stages to the top of the tower. The arches have two-centred heads with a multiple moulded chamfer. On the north and south sides the shafts of the arch alternate with vertical bands of dog-tooth patterning, but the east and west arches are more restrained. In the second stage there are three open arches on each side, and behind them runs a passage pierced through the thickness of the, walls, encircling the tower. This "external triforium" is a most unusual feature. The arches are continued round the outside of the buttesses as blank arcades, and the same device is found in the two stages above. The third stage is the bell chamber and has two lights on each side with a quatrefoil or a plain roundel over them. The large arch in which both windows and roundel are set has a double moulding with shafts and dog-tooth ornament. The head of the arch breaks into the fourth stage which has continuous blind arcading. There is an open traceried parapet and crocketed pinnacles which seem slightly too small for the rest of the tower and may be of later date.
