19th Century R.D. Gould built the school at West Buckland (1860) and St Michael's church The 2nd Earl Fortescue gave £1000 to endow a chaplain and to rebuild his church for the school. The tower was left, but the church was rebuilt to the north, so that it now stands at the South West corner.
