Egham Parish Church was built between 1817 and 1820 by Henry Rhodes, an architect in the Board of Works. The church was designed in classical style, inspired by Soane and replaced a Norman church on the site built early in the 12th century under the patronage of Chertsey Abbey. The church is a Grade II* Listed Building and features a fine collection of memorials and fittings along with a mural by Hans Feibush on the east wall of the Sanctuary.
Building is open for worship
Footprint of Church buildings: 596 m²
Regarding the archaeological significance of the area, apart from the south-east corner, the site is located within the Egham Town Centre Conservation Area, which was designated by Runnymede Borough Council and is currently under review (adopted April 1993). The north of the site is also included within an Area of High Archaeological Potential (AHAP) which was designated due to the likelihood of archaeological artefacts or features implied by past archaeological discoveries in the area.
Prior to 1817, the Norman St John the Baptist’s Church was situated in the centre of the site, surrounded by a graveyard that had been in use since at least the 16th century. To the north-east and north-west there were two rows of houses fronting on to the High Street. Although these buildings were located just outside the site, their garden plots and any associated outbuildings may have been located within the northern extents of the current churchyard. In 1817 the Norman structure was demolished in favour of a Neo-Classical building. Although the majority of the new building was situated on the site of the former Church, there may still be remains of the former structure located beneath the ground surface, especially to the north of the current Church.

The church is built in Gault brick with Portland and Bath stone details. The main roofs are covered in natural slate.
