The church is listed Grade II*. It is believed that a church has been on the site since 1179. The older building fabric appears to be 16th Century, and that the Chancel was rebuilt in 1834. The organ, within the tower arch, is a significant internal feature. It was built around 1860 by Henry Willis who built the original Grand Organ in the Royal Albert Hall, and was installed in 1914 by the Earl Howe in memory of his sister Lady Evelyn. There is also a monument to Georgiana, Countess Howe on the north wall of the Chancel dated 1909 which was created by Sir George Frampton.
