St. John the Baptist Church is situated in an elevated position, adjacent to remains of a medieval castle, in the centre of the village of Ruyton-XI-Towns. It is Grade II listed. St. John the Baptist Church 12th century of local red sandstone, east of castle ruins consisting of nave, chancel and north aisle with tower south west corner.

Norman nave and chancel. Four Norman windows in chancel (2 south, 2 north). The nave and chancel were restored between 1861 and 1868 by Poutney Smith. Between nave and north aisle is a four bay arcade with octagonal pillars c13.The tower has two tall stages with diagonal buttresses. Nave roof with collar-beams on arched braces, two tiers of wind-braces and queenposts set diagonally so as to form with the rafters cusped quatrefoil patterns, late medieval.

Grade II Listed. Lych-gate at south east entrance to churchyard. 1888. Gabled timber-framed structure on low red sandstone walls with chamfered coping; machine tile roof with ornamental cresting and cross to centre of ridge. Benches to sides. Billet moulding to tie beams and wooden gates.
Tomb (monument)
Mid-C18 to early C19
Grade II Listed. Group of 10 chest tombs. Mid-C18 to early C19. Sandstone ashlar. Row of 5 very closely-spaced tombs aligned north-south with another 2 on same alignment immediately to west; 3 further tombs a few metres to south-east. Five in row have moulded plinths and capping with mixture of fluted and plain corner pilasters; carved floral motifs to ends. Inscriptions to top ledgers, ranging in date from 1780 to 1805, commemorating members of local families. North tomb has inscription panel to north face in memory of Richard Basnett of Wykey (died 1796), flanked by floral emblems; fluted fans to spandrels. No tombs to west also have inscriptions to top ledgers, southern dated 1739 and other illegible but probably roughly contemporary. Three tombs to south-east, c.1800, with mixture of fluted and plain corner pilasters and chamfered top ledgers. Recessed semi-circular inscription panels to long sides and oval-shaped discs to ends.
