A large church, but without mention of the dedication, was included in the Domesday Book however, in the years immediately after the Domesday Book’s completion, a church in Oswestry, dedicated to St Oswald, was recorded in the cartulary of Shrewsbury Abbey. The church, parts of which to date from C12th, was severely damaged during the Civil War and a rebuild was completed in the early 1670s. Further interior reordering of the church took place during 1872-74 by Victorian architect G E Street. The current church has a Grade II* listing.
