History
Priest is found in Domesday Book. Church mentioned in 1160.
Archaeology
Observation of trench dug along north wall of chancel revealed underpinning towards west end consisting of a mixture of large irregular sandstone blocks and bricks. Probable original foundation trench under this, cut by grave.
Churchyard cleared 1984.
Observation of trench for electric cable 1984: no features seen except for small section of modern brickwork just beyond north end of tower. Observation of drain trenches 2012: a length of masonry was recorded in the trench north of the chancel, which may represent an early wall parallel to the chancel. A possible ledger stone was also recorded north of the tower. In trenches cut into the paths earlier surface levels could be seen; these were particularly deep in the area to the south of the porch, suggesting the ground here was originally much lower. Medieval floor tile found.
