The church is built of brick with stone dressings and roof coverings of slate. The exterior of the building is in a simplified version of the Early English style. In the tall side walls of the aisles, pairs of lancets alternate with plain buttresses. The clerestory has pairs of small round-headed windows, but it is hardly visible from the outside because the aisles have independent pitched roofs.

The west wall has an entrance door in the centre under a gable; the door is flanked by two small lancet windows and there is another of the same type above the door. In the east wall is a large triplet of lancet windows, the central window being larger than the other two. The tower is tall enough to dominate the rest of the church, but is narrow in relation to its height. The lower stage reaches up to the level of the nave roof ridge and is plain, apart from the clock, and one small stair-window on each face. Above this are two further stages with three louvred lights on each face. The windows of the lower tier have small arched hood-moulds, while those of the upper tier are gabled. The tower is finished with a simple pierced parapet and four corner pinnacles with a gablet on each face.
Stained Glass
There are several small stained glass windows, that in the east wall was given in memory of William Chance, d.1856.
The interior is a box with galleries on three sides; the ceiling is flat and there is no structural division between nave and chancel. The arcade is of four bays, the easternmost bay being part of the chancel. The piers of the arcade are hexagonal with a small chamfer on the east and west sides. The clerestory is composed of small paired windows set in reveals with square heads. Both nave and aisles have flat ceilings. The church is painted white up to the level of the galleries but above this, in the nave, the walls and ceiling are covered with stencil decoration in the manner of C.E. Kempe. An IHS motif is employed on the walls, a large Tudor rose on the ceiling of the nave, and in the chancel the letters IHS and HPC alternate in a grid of painted roof timbers.
