St Mary the Virgin, Pype Hayes is a large red-brick building designed by E F Reynolds in a simple Romanesque style with round-headed windows and a narrow, open-sided turret. St Mary the Virgin was consecrated in 1930 and a parish assigned out of St. Barnabas', Erdington. The district of Pype Hayes was being built up with housing at the time.

This church is built in red brick with round tile arches and sandstone dressings and has a seven-bay nave with passage aisles and a clerestory; the roof is covered with Roman tiles. The east end is cruciform with a chancel and chapels in the transepts.
