The church is well sited on the outside of a bend in Abbey Road, and can be seen from some distance in both directions. The tower and spire are conspicuous. The spire is built of smooth ashlar masonry, but the body of the building is faced with rough limestone, and the roof-coverings are of slate. The west front is a dramatic composition, with the tower and spire and the sheer west wall of the nave placed side by side. The tower itself is of two unequal stages, wit stepped diagonal buttresses. In the upper stage the belfry windows are deeply set under triple-shafted arches. Above the tower rises the large broach spire with lucarnes on each of the four principal faces. The west wall adjoining the tower is pierced by a five-light window with elaborate, if rather mechanical, Decorated tracery. The lean-to aisles have pointed two-light windows, while the clerestorey has large trefoil windows with what are best described as straight-sided nodding gablets over. The clerestorey walls are further elaboratedby a bold corbel-table. The transepts project beyond the line of the aisles, and have large four-light windows in the gable walls. The chancel is slightly lower than the.navel and is hemmed in on either side by vestry buildings. The chancel east.window is of five principal lights with a large rose and two smaller sexfoils in the tracery.
To mark the centenary, a major restoration of the church interior was carried out in 1966/7. This involved the cleaning and repair of the roof, plaster, and stone-work, and a complete internal re-decoration. The interior of the nave is tall and rather narrow; at the west end is a wooden gallery, and eastward of it are four bays of chatfered equilateral arches resting on piers which are alternately cylindrical and octagonal. The piers have naturalistic foliage capitals and the stops of the hood-moulding of the arcade are also individually carved. The clerestorey windows are set under squat, pointed arches, and Separated by sliarwall-shafts resting on large carved corbels. The shafts support the hammer-beams of the roof, which is scissor-bracecd. The transepts open into the crossing by means of arches which have the same profile as those in the nave arcades, but are considerably larger. These arches have demi-octagonal responds but the chancel arch, which is taller still, has triple shafted responds and a moulded arch which is altogether more delicate than the rest. The chancel itself, which has a small chapel on the south side and an organ chamber on the north, is quite short. The reredos built into the wall underneath the large east window has a central section with three gables and a representation of the Last Supper flanked by pairs of cusped arches.
