Building is open for worship
Footprint of Church buildings: 364 m²
The Church, two rows of cottages and two former adjacent schools were built at the expense of the local industrialist John Horrocks Ainsworth in 1847/8. The Church was consecrated by the first Bishop of Manchester on June 22nd, 1848. This whole group of buildings are listed Grade II. The two-day schools were closed in 1923 and the buildings have been used by the Church ever since as community space.
Over the years minor alterations have been made. First many years ago the front row of Choir stalls on each side of the centre aisle were removed to widen the approach to the Chancel steps. In the 1950's a new East window was installed as a memorial of the 1939-45 war, also the dark varnish on the pews and other furnishings were stripped to reveal the natural grain of the wood.
In the 1970's 12 pews at the rear of the ground floor were removed to create a "Fellowship and
meeting room" under the balcony. As part of this re-ordering three more Choir stalls were removed to make space for the Font to be moved to its present position near the Pulpit.
