Grade I listed Barford St Michael church is set on a mound (possibly man made) on the western edge of the village. Built initially in ~1150 and remodelled in C 13 it is built from regularly coursed ironstone rubble topped with stone coping. The church consists of a chancel, nave, south aisle, tower (unusually placed between the chancel and south aisle), north porch and south porch. The roof is slate with no underfelt.

The church consists of a chancel, nave, south aisle, tower (unusually placed between the chancel and south aisle), north porch and south porch. The roof is slate with no underfelt.
A three stage tower with a crenelated parapet. The tower has 2-light square headed stone mullioned windows. There is an Early English window to the ground floor.
North Porch is gabled with a chamfered arch.
Chancel – 3-light tracered east window with 4 centred head and hood moulding with some stonework renewed. 2 light window with Y tracery and hood moulding and label stops to the south. There are 2 similar windows to the north. There is a decorated piscina with a projecting bowl. To the north is a small pointed arch doorway with a plank door. To the south a curved arch doorway with a plank door leading to the vestry in the base of the tower. The Chancel arch is C13 and the responds contain Norman work including shafts with scalloped capitals and palmetto decoration.
Nave – 3-light tracered window and a 2-light window with Y tracery. Further 2-light window with Y tracery to the west end of the Nave. There is a single lancet window on the west wall. There are softwood pews in poor condition (woodworm) in the Nave and South Aisle which are probably Victorian (mid 1800’s) and have small wooden buttress design to the edges.
South Aisle – Separated from Nave by 3 unequal sized bays with round piers with moulded capitals. All arches are double chamfered. A 2-light window with cusped ogee heads to the west of the south porch and 2 windows with intersecting tracery to the east of the south porch. There is an Early English piscina on the south wall with 2 trefoiled arches.
