A church comprising nave, north and south aisles, chancel and north porch. Some parts of the fabric are still medieval, but with significant restorations by members of the Knapp family across several centuries.
Building is open for worship
Ground plan:
Nave, with north and south aisles, chancel and north porch. Western bell-cote.
Footprint of Church buildings: 169 m²
Nave and chancel basically 13th century; the nave has its original (and unrestored) twin bell - cote and ancient roof timbers, probably 15th century, with cambered tie-beams and wall-brackets supported on wooden corbels. The north aisle, which had at some previous time been demolished, was rebuilt in 1878 and the porch added at the same time. The south aisle is of c.1320, also rebuilt later, though retaining its ancient roof. The chancel was extensively restored, at the expense of R.G.S. Knapp, in c.1896. There was a repair to the chancel by John Knapp after 1684 and the floor of black and white marble squares appears to date from this time.
Stained Glass
East window, of two principal lights with a quatrefoil above, set in plate tracery. By Lavers and Westlake.
Nave retains 15th century (most likely) roof timbers, with cambered tie-beams and wall-brackets supported on wooden corbels. Chancel has a poor roof and unplastered walls. Floor is of black and white marble. Nave and aisles are more attractive North arcade of two bays and south of three. There are a number of wall monuments to members of the Knapp family.
