16th Century The tower is mentioned in the will of John Peryn of Wellington, d. 1509 and his initials are in the pierced parapet. Canon Clarke notes that Architectural historian Wickham mentions another will of 1540. Tower with a turret in the middle of the most visible side: the flanking windows are narrow 2-light ones. Three stage tower with quatrefoil pierced parapet continued around stair turret placed on centre of north face, gargoyles, diagonal buttresses, 2-light bell-openings with Somerset tracery, second stage unlit, 3-light west window with continous hood mould resting on string course above decorative spandrels of 4-centred arch head west doorway
